On the 21st September 2019 we transported our 1980’s Rice Europa from The Sotterley Estate, Suffolk to Buckton Fields, Northamptonshire. The trailer is called Granville, after my Grandad who owned a farm where I spent a good part of my childhood. I have such fond memories of the farm, it acted as a hub where friends were family and family were friends. Unfortunately the farm was sold under compulsory purchase in the early 00’s. On the land where a beautiful stone farmhouse and two Victorian barns once stood, now lies a small number of ‘luxury properties’ by Westchurch homes.
On our way to collect the trailer Ben asked me what we were going to call it. I suggested Granville (horse trailer…farm…you see the link.) I asked Ben if he had any ideas and indeed he did. Blue Ivy. I actually liked this a lot, I mean who doesn’t love the Carters? Later on in the journey I picked up my phone and saw a picture posted on Facebook by my Aunty. ‘11 Years since you left us.” The picture was of my Grandad sat on his beloved tractor in the early 90’s. I hadn’t realised that it was 11 years to the day my Grandad had passed. There he was sat on his blue tractor, exactly the same colour as the horse trailer we were about to collect. Decision made, Granville it is.
